Osteoporosis is a disease that usually occur in older people especially menopausal women.

After you have menopause, women will experience quicker bone loss because of the decrease in estrogen creation. People that have a family history of osteoporosis are at the highest risk of getting disease. Live a sedentary lifestyle also increases risk of developing osteoporosis. Kidney failure, glandular disease, rheumatoid arthritis and other aging related diseases which can lead to osteoporosis. Major drugs such as steroids, thyroid hormone also are prone to cause osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis causes

Loss of bone mass is inherent in aging for both men and women, but women are more susceptible to it. This is added by menopause which every woman will go through. Menopause (especially post menopause) increases the risk of developing osteoporosis because a menopausal woman is not protected by estrogen hormone anymore. Estrogen plays an important role in bone health. For premenopausal women, cig smoking decreases estrogen level, therefore decreasing bone mass and eventually leading to osteoporosis.
